#1: The North Ionian Islands

The Trip

For one week we will circumnavigate Corfu starting from Corfu Town or Gouvia Marina heading North. We’ll make stops on Corfu’s North East coast and continue to the Diapontia Islands, namely Ereikoussa, Othonoi and Mathraki, that are much less developed than Corfu itself and offer beautiful bays and beaches with crystal clear waters, quiet villages by the sea, breath-taking sunsets and some good hiking opportunities.

From the North Ionian islands, we head South down the West coast of Corfu, stopping overnight in Paleokastritsa or St. Georges bay and heading yet further South for a stop in Paxos, before making our way up the South-East coast of Corfu back to Corfu Town.

On this trip you will get to see the best of coastal North Ionian and Corfu with varied stops in quiet bays, calm island harbours or cosmopolitan and well-developed sea-side villages. Whether you actively explore on land or just enjoy life in and on the water – we will pamper you with tasty meals and drinks and introduce you to the best authentic experiences each of these stops have to offer.

The Yacht

Morpheus, our flagship yacht, is an elegant 17-meter Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 54 DS that boasts excellent sailing quality paired with exceptional design. The well-furnished interiors contain a total of five cabins and four bathrooms. We gave Morpheus a generous makeover in 2019, both technically and in appearance, adding personal touches and high-quality amenities and equipment more

Setting off from the Corfu Sailing Club (alternatively Gouvia Marina), we head North stopping on the way for a swim, before anchoring in one of the bays along the North East Coast for the night (Kalami, Agios Stefanos, or Avlaki).

We lift our anchor and sail around the coast towards the Diapontia Islands and Ereikoussa. A morning mist may initially hide it from view, but soon the sun will clear the atmosphere, and the low profile of this little gem of an island will be seen on the horizon. Here we will stop for a swim in Bragini, the first landfall of the island and then sail around the corner to anchor in the bay or moor in the quiet Marina. Ereikoussa is a small island, with just one village and a selection of good quality restaurants, a bakery and a mini market. Easily walkable, we can spend the day here taking the opportunity to hike around the island or having some fun in the water, the beach being right next to the Marina.

From Ereikoussa, we have a choice of sailing to Othonoi or Mathraki. The distance is not great so there is no hurry to set off early, after breakfast and a morning swim, we can head of towards the other two islands. Othoni is home to stunning Kalypso's bay, essentially the most Northwest place in Greece, as the mobile phone coverage will confirm (there is none). For the night we can either stay in Othonoi, or head to Mathraki, the smallest and “cutest” of the three islands.

Heading further down South we will explore the bays of the Northwest coast of Corfu and anchor either in Paleokastritsa or St George's bay. Just before this bay is the famous Porto Timoni, accessible only by boat or by long walk from Afionas village.

Leaving early this morning for a long sail south to beautiful Lakka on Paxos. There will be an opportunity to stop somewhere for a swim and see the long sandy beaches of Corfu as we sail past. Lakka is the northernmost bay of Paxos, a stunning turquoise green bay with a small village tucked right at the back. We will anchor in a quiet corner, tie a long line ashore and visit the village by tender.

After breakfast we will head off to sail towards Corfu again, possibly stopping off the salt flats of Lefkimmi in shallow water to enjoy a swim in the middle of the Sea and before steering for Petriti, a fishing village in the South of Corfu for the night.

Heading off North we will slowly wind our way along the coast of Corfu, past places like Benitses and Perama, more or less on the flightpath approach to Corfu Airport and getting a sea view of Corfu's most famous landmarks like Mouse Island and the Vlacherna monastery, before arriving in the Corfu Sailing Club, in time for a visit to the Old Town of Corfu.

Check out either in the Sailing Club or Gouvia Marina and time for goodbyes...
