After boarding the ship either in Gouvia Marina or Corfu Sailing Club, we will head South along Corfu and then a little to the East towards a group of small islands just off the mainland coast called Syvota. Here we will explore the bays and famous Blue Lagoon on and in the water, before picking a spot amongst the islands secluded bays or the little village harbour for the night.
Today we will sail over to Paxos anchoring for a swim in Lakka bay, taking a long line ashore, and going to the lovely village by tender, where you can enjoy a coffee or drink while watching the sunset and the boats coming in.
We will, weather allowing, circumnavigate the island, exploring the many caves on the West coast, stopping for a swim in a bay accessible only by boat, and sail round the corner to spend the night in Gaios, the bustling little capital of the island, or Mongonissi a quiet bay, home to one of the best restaurant/bars in the Ionian.
An early start will give us a chance to savour the delightful Antipaxos, before the crowds descend on it. We’ll thenthen head over to Two Rock bay on the mainland. A tranquil and secluded bay, with pine trees down to the water on 3 sides and a small canteen bar in the forest looking down on the bay, this is a magical place. Some sailors spend days here just chilling.
Back to Paxos again this time to explore the bays around Loggos, like Monodendri and later head to Loggos itself, with its derelict soap factory and little houses and restaurants down by the water. Loggos has a very small quay so we will more than likely just anchor and take a line ashore, in the small bay just behind the break water.
Sailing back to the mainland, passing by Syvota to see the cave on the outside we will eventually arrive to spend the night in Plataria, a rustic little mainland Greece village with a small marina and a selection of good fish restaurants. While Plataria is not the type of quaint little village as in nearby Paxos, it has a different charm, very much its own and it also boasts some pretty amazing sunsets, looking out towards Corfu to the West.
Sailing Northwest from Plataria we might stop for a swim off the salt flats of Lefkimmi before winding our way up the coast to arrive in the Corfu sailing club in time for a visit to Kampielo, Corfu's Old town, a night out in one of the many restaurants of Corfu or a meal in the excellent Sailing Club restaurant.
Check out in the Sailing Club or Gouvia Marina and time for goodbyes...
